For Our Eyes Only

There are so many moments like that, Lord.  Those “If Only I Had a Camera” moments.

Like the one I had this morning.

A neon-yellow gold finch flew from our bird feeder to the bird bath in our front yard. Bright yellow against the grey metal.  Made brighter still by the cloudless, sunlit sky.

A beloved, Forever Sister of mine loves the color yellow.  I thought, “If only I had a camera…”  My cell phone with its high-resolution camera was in the other room. Something — Someone — told me this moment would pass if I ran to get it.

So I stayed… and drank in the Beauty.  I was right… or rather, You were, Lord.  I would have missed it if I hadn’t stayed.

That Present Moment is now Past.  My Forever Sister will not see it, even in a photo.  Then I realized… it wasn’t meant for her.

It was meant for me.

So it is with such moments.  Our days are filled with them!  Special, personal Gifts from You, Lord… if only we will open our eyes and spiritual “mouths” and “drink” them in.

Moments of profound Beauty.

Moments of profound Love.

Moments of profound Meaning.

Oh, Lord… Stir in us a Holy Anticipation, so we will look for such moments!  Give us eyes to see what is meant for our eyes only!  Help us resolve to wait and watch… and to not miss our Gifts because we are too busy or distracted!

And give us understanding, so we will treasure the Gift of You in every such moment!

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change…”  (James 1:17)

“Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”  (Matthew 6:21)

Grateful for today’s Gifts…

… even more so, for The Giver
