Fish On!!!

Ninety-one degrees in the shade.  Shade fleeting, but welcome, under the bimini of our Mako 17.  Sweat dripping off me… everywhere.

My tenth fish slipping happily back into the Rappahannock River, freed from my hook.  Because, truth be told, it was too small… and, besides, the cooler was already too full of my “keepers.”

Happy Anniversary to me!  🙂

Some might not call it a very romantic way to spent our anniversary, but to me… it was heavenly.  I don’t know which was my favorite part, Lord.  Discovering a new part of Virginia, along a stretch of wild river where we didn’t see another human being all day?  The “Midas Touch” You gave me… turning every cast into more treasure from Your watery vault?  The utter peace and quiet, uninterrupted by sounds of civilization?

A whole day spent on the water with my Great Guy… who is also a Great Guide?  🙂

Maybe it was the three huge bald eagles that took off from a nearby tree and flew down the river under our admiring gaze?

What better gift could You have picked, Lord, to commemorate our 27 years of marriage?  Hmm… 27.  Slightly longer than the distance of a marathon.  So like marriage — a “marathon” in its own way.  Certainly not a sprint!  A “marathon” through “terrain” full of ups and downs.  A “marathon” requiring training and determination.  A “marathon” with times of “hitting the wall” and pressing through… exhilaration and unbridled joy.

Starting with Hope.  Finishing well.  All made possible, even glorious, because of You.

“Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and His understanding no one can fathom…. those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”  (Isaiah 40:28,31)

You’re right, Lord.  They are all favorite parts… and rightly so.  Why choose just one?

Thank You, Abba… for everything!

Eager for more,

Abba’s Girl
