Fare Well

Oh, Lord…

Friendship is a beautiful Gift.

We said “Goodbye” tonight to the many snowbirds who live around our lake.  Or rather, “Farewell.”  Hoping they will “fare well” as they return to their northern homes until next winter, when they “fly” south yet again.

I felt like crying.

Was it because we spent the evening laughing together?  Delighting in each other? EnJOYing good food and, especially, good fellowship… knowing tonight was our last chance to do so for awhile?

“This is the day the Lord has made.  Let us rejoice and be glad in it!”  (Psalm 118:24)

“… do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.  Each day has enough trouble of its own.”  (Matthew 6:34)

[Deep sigh.]

Solomon said it so well, Lord.

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”  (Ecclesiastes 3:1)

Times of laughter, like tonight.  Times of longing, like tomorrow… when good friends will be far away once again.

It reminds me of the Day that is coming, Lord.  The Day when our times of longing will end and our eternal rejoicing will begin. The Day when Good Friends will be reunited, never to be separated again.

“I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his Master’s business.  Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from My Father I have made known to you.”  (John 15:15)

So until we are reunited, we do what Friends do…

“You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit — fruit that will last — and so that whatever you ask in My name the Father will give you.  This is My command:  Love each other.”  (John 15:16-17)

We love.  Loving, loving, loving people home to You…

… each of us, as one of your many BFFs.
