Edge of Extinction?

I have heard it said that Christianity is only one generation away from extinction.  Could that possibly be true?

I saw four generations gathered together today.  A spiritual melting pot.  Believers, Agnostics, Atheists.  Hot, Lukewarm, Cold.  Passionate, Indifferent, Antagonistic.  Lost and Found.  Wandering Aimlessly.  Seeking.

If I saw only with my natural eyes, I might despair.  But with my spiritual eyes I saw… Unquenchable HOPE!  Because there was Life.  And as long as there is Life, there is HOPE!

“Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and He will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for Him.”   (Hebrews 9:27-28)

Thank You, Lord, for the precious opportunities You gave me today to love people toward You!

The relationships that were started.  The testimonies that were shared.  The questions that were answered.  The seeds that were planted.  The prayers that were encouraged.  The truths that were spoken.  The hugs that spoke volumes without words.

“Be very careful, then, how you live — not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.”  (Ephesians 5:15-16)

And thank You, Lord, for the priceless fruit You will bring forth through every God-encounter You cultivated!  And for letting me be one of Your “farm hands” today!

“You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit — fruit that will last…”  (John 15:16)

That’s why it cannot possibly be true that Christianity would ever become extinct.  Because as Christians, we are Christ-followers… and there can never be an end to following You, Lord! The grave couldn’t hold You!  The enemy can’t stop You!  And You will never let us go!

“My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me.  I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of My hand.  My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of My Father’s hand.”  (John 10:27-29)

So it is with such assurance, Lord, that You exhort us — invite us, empower us — to advance Your Kingdom.  One heart at a time.  One encounter at a time.  One Believer, Agnostic, or Atheist at a time.  With those who are… Hot, Lukewarm, Cold.  Passionate, Indifferent, Antagonistic.  Lost or Found.  Wandering Aimlessly.  Seeking.

Which leaves me grateful for today…

… and eager for tomorrow…   !!!
