Dreaming BIG!

By Your Grace, I used to help corporate leadership teams “Dream Big” — setting visions that would pull their employees and, therefore, their companies into the future, with positive energy.  Visions to be Bigger, Better, Number One, the Only One.

I say “by Your Grace” because I didn’t know You back then.  Yet even then, You were leading me, teaching me.  In what was happening then… and for what is happening now.

What did the earliest disciples “dream” as they traveled the world for You, Lord?

Paul’s vocation was tentmaking.  Did he ever dream to be the biggest, best tentmaker in his region?  Or the world?  I don’t know much about the tangible results of Paul’s tentmaking business (how many he made, how much he charged or earned).  One thing I do know:  He made the most of every opportunity to tell everyone in his business sphere of influence about You — his customers, his vendors, his co-laborers.  And everyone beyond his business sphere of influence.

Did he ever dream the letters he wrote, under the inspiration of Your Holy Spirit — to the churches in Galatia, Ephesus, Phillippi, Thessalonica, Rome, etc. — would be read by millions throughout the ages… helping people far beyond the reach of his natural voice come to know You and love You as Savior and Lord?

What should I be “dreaming” now, Lord?  As I travel my own part of the world for You?  What dream(s) would be BIG enough by Your measure?

How about speaking to a large crowd about You, Lord… and having thousands give their hearts to You on the spot?

“‘God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of it.  Exalted at the right hand of God, He has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear… Therefore, let all Israel be assured of this:  God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.’  When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart… Peter repled, ‘Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.  And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.  The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off — for all whom the Lord our God will call.’  Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.'”  (Acts 2:14-41)

How about walking along a busy street, passing by people who are dreadfully sick… people who are instantly healed because my shadow falls on them?

“The apostles performed many signs and wonders among the people… more and more men and women were added to their number.  As a result, people brought the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and mats so that at least Peter’s shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by.  Crowds gathered also from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those tormented by impure spirits, and all of them were healed.”  (Acts 5:16-17)

Now that’s dreaming BIG!!!

But were results like these the outcome of Peter and Paul “dreaming big,” Lord?  Or were they the result of Peter and Paul loving, seeking and living for You with all of their hearts, minds, souls and strength?

And what is “BIG” anyway, in Your eyes?

“Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury.  Many rich people threw in large amounts.  But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.  Calling His disciples to Him, Jesus said, ‘Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others.  They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything — all she had to live on.”  (Mark 12:41-44)

Now that’s dreaming BIG.

Yes, Lord.  By Your Grace, You are still leading me, still teaching me.

I wonder what I will dream tonight… or tomorrow, in the bright Sonlight.
