Does Anyone See Me?

Hospitals are places where we mostly focus on our loved ones.  What do they need?  Are they receiving it?  How can we help?

But You reminded me today, Lord, that there are other people there, too.  People whose paths cross ours.  Not by accident, but by Your orchestration.

The young woman on the elevator.

She didn’t say anything, but there was something about her face.  Her look.

So, at Your gentle prodding, I said something.

We only shared the elevator for seven floors.  But she told me more in that time than some might share in weeks.

Was it because we were alone… together?  Or because we were not alone?

You were there, Lord, and it was obvious.  At least, to me.

The young woman behind the deli station in the food court.

Remarkable for what she didn’t say.  And for her face — its sadness.

People ahead of me rushed by.  Stating their orders.  Taking their food.  As if she were a sandwich-making robot.

Suddenly, it was my turn.

At Your gentle prodding, I flashed the smile in my heart and asked how she was today.

Nothing registered.  So I asked her again.

Our encounter lasted no more than two minutes.  But a lot can happen in a short amount of time when You’re around, Lord.

As she handed me my sandwich, she looked into my eyes and smiled at me.

Our gaze — and our smiles — lingered until the next customer broke into our “space.”

The space where You were, Lord.

So many people in that building today.

So many who might be wondering:  “Does anyone see me?”

So many Divine appointments for… someone.

All the “someone’s” You had sent there today, Lord… for such a time as this.

Little encounters… or so they seemed.  Not earth-shattering, perhaps… but significant.

Each in their own way.  Ways that are evident only to You, Lord.  At least, for now.

But even little encounters are great privileges… aren’t they, Lord?

“In my distress I called to the Lord; I cried out to my God for help.  From His temple He heard my voice; my cry came before Him, into His ears… He reached down from on high and took hold of me; He drew me out of deep waters… He brought me out into a spacious place; He rescued me because He delighted in me.”  (Psalm 18:6,16-17)

Oh, Abba… Thank You!!!

Gratefully,

Abba’s Girl
