Counting Sheep Among Wolves

I can’t sleep, Lord.

I keep replaying the conversation I overheard hours earlier.  A conversation that grieved my spirit… and Yours.

A conversation of Division.  Division within a family. The Family. Your Family.

Oh, Abba…  I am awake with so many questions:

How do hurt feelings turn so quickly into bitterness?

How does frustration with another morph into self-righteousness?

How does a trusted advocate become a treacherous adversary?

Why do victims victimize?

How do strong allegiances shift so quickly, as if their foundations were only shifting sand?

How can the tongue be unleashed so unmercifully out of a heart that appears to be so kind?

How do Your children fall so easily for the enemy’s schemes, turning on each other instead of taking care of each other?

“… each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed.  Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.”  (James 1:14-15)

How do they — we — find our way out of such traps?  Such heart sickness?

“You have forsaken the love you had at first.  Consider how far you have fallen!  Repent and do the things you did at first… Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”  (Revelation 2:4-5,7)

“Do you show contempt for the riches of His kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?”  (Romans 2:4)

“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.  I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.  Surely He will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.” (Psalm 91:1-3)

Not giving up or giving in…

Praying for breakthrough…
