Closing the Distance

When was I close enough to touch Your face yesterday, Lord?

When I listened to Your Word in the predawn darkness, receiving it — and You, its Author — so gratefully?

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”  (John 1:1)

When I petted my husband’s arm and refused his half-joking encouragement to find someone younger and “better”?

“Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”  (Matthew 19:6)

When I reassured our baby, Skippy — who was on the way to the kennel — that she is dearly loved?

“Let the little children come to Me…”  (Matthew 19:14)  [Even the little kitties?]  🙂

When I mailed my absentee ballot for our national election, crying out to You for mercy over our nation in these troublesome and treacherous times?

“Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account.  Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you.”  (Hebrews 13:17)

[a.k.a. “With men this is impossible, but with God, ALL things are possible.”  !!!  (Matthew 19:26) ]

When I was cruising at 30,000 feet, flying “the friendly skies” to see friends and winterize our summer mountain retreat?

“As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”  (Isaiah 55:9)

When I thanked the gate attendant for blessing me by wearing so much pink?  Or when I honored her mom and sister-in-law as fellow survivors of breast cancer?

“Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all His benefits — who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases.”  (Psalm 103:2-3)

When I gave thanks to You in the crowded restaurant — for our dear friends, the wait staff and the feast You had prepared for us?

“I am the Bread of Life.  Whoever comes to Me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in Me will never be thirsty.”  (John 6:35)

When I settled quietly in the stillness of our final destination, burrowing under the covers as our heater slowly warmed the 40-degree inside temp?

“Be still and know that I am God.”  (Psalm 46:10)

When was I close enough to touch Your face, Lord?  It was in all of those moments… wasn’t it?  Because of the greatest Truth of all…

“And surely I am with you always…”  (Matthew 28:20)

[Deep sigh.]   🙂
