When The Student Is Ready…

… the Teacher of teachers appears. This book had been in my reading stack for seven months, Lord. In January, You had prompted a dear friend to send it to me. More than a friend… a Forever Brother. The Caleb Years. By David Ingerson. I could immediately tell I would treasure this book. In the same way I treasure every real-life testimony I am blessed to read… … every testimony that bears witness to Your glory and goodness, Lord. Even in the worst of circumstances. “What would you do if you were told by the doctors that your newborn child’s life would be very short — that your baby would live at… Read more »

Running On Empty… ???

Posted by & filed under Inspirational God-encounters, Empowering Life.

What is the technology equivalent of fumes, Lord? Like when a car’s fuel tank is almost empty and it’s running on fumes? When the yellow light silently screams its warning from the dashboard that we’ve just about reached the end of our rope? That’s the state of my cell phone right now. My iPhone 7, barely 18 months old. It won’t recharge. I have tried two indoor chargers and one car charger. None of them work. So it’s clearly an issue with my phone. And it’s down to 8% battery life remaining. The nearest Apple store is two hours away. Another joy of living in the country, a.k.a. the boondocks. … Read more »

Blessings In Disguise

My optometrist is a dear Forever Brother. I met him years ago when You, Lord, moved him and his partner to mobilize comprehensive eye care for the uninsured, needy patients we serve at Samaritan’s Touch Care Center. The Christ-centered medical facility You miraculously raised up out of nothing in our impoverished rural county. I have been supporting their practice ever since, thanking them with my healthcare business since I am insured. What a blessing vision is, Lord! Without prescription glasses, my world would be very small. The expression “blind as a bat” comes to mind.  🙂  “I was blind, but now I see!”  (John 9:25)  🙂 Today, I was there to check… Read more »

IMPOSSIBLE Odds!!! But For…

How could I have ever hoped to connect with her, Lord? One particular woman? LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional network, with over 546 million users in more than 200 countries and territories. Its vision? “Create economic opportunity for every member of the global workforce.”  https://about.linkedin.com/ And at least some of those 546 million users have gathered into groups. Millions of LinkedIn groups. Millions upon millions. My head was spinning! How could I ever hope to find one person I didn’t even know I needed to meet? IMPOSSIBLE!!! But for You, Lord. “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”  (Matthew 19:26) “‘For I know the plans… Read more »

Today’s Unexpected Gift

Posted by & filed under Inspirational God-encounters, Empowering Life.

So many precious gifts from You this Holy Week, Lord! Why am I not surprised another would arrive on Easter morning? In the form of a wounded baby rabbit, lying at our front door. We were about to leave for church. To celebrate Your Resurrection with other brothers and sisters who love You. And there it was. My own little Easter bunny? Traumatized. With its attacker lying nearby. Skippy. My beloved cat. A talented hunter. She had laid her “prize” at the front door… as if to say, “Look, Mom! Look what I caught!” Usually, I applaud her. She reduces the population of unwanted critters around (and, sometimes, inside) our… Read more »

What Makes YOUR Mouth Water???

Posted by & filed under Inspirational God-encounters, Empowering Life.

We were gathered in a comfortable living room. Seventeen of us in all. Pressed together on comfy couches and window seats. Spilling over onto chairs with overstuffed pillows or hard wooden slats. Standing Room Only. Except we weren’t standing.  🙂 Actually, we weren’t really sitting either; at least, our spirits weren’t. They were on bended knees… looking UP. For over two hours. That’s how long we gathered in Your Presence, Lord. It seemed like only a moment… You had invited me there, Abba — a place where I was unknown. To speak — deeply — about two of my greatest Valleys in Life. And how You met me in each… Read more »

Today’s Seeds… Tomorrow’s Harvest?

Posted by & filed under Inspirational God-encounters, Empowering Life.

It’s happening right now… isn’t it, Lord? The God-encounter for this Son-day’s post. I had been praying since I first woke up this morning, “What do You want me to write about today, Lord? What encounter have we had this past week that could give others Hope?”  I remember the fleeting thought that flew through my brain when I finished that prayer. Perhaps it will even happen today… And so it has… at 3:33 in the afternoon. That’s the time my laptop marked when I “woke” it up to log on. My favorite Three — Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Not once, but three times. For emphasis. The Encounter is simple enough…. Read more »

Where Was God? – Part 2

Posted by & filed under Discovering Hope, Empowering Life.

I didn’t know the answer to that question for more than half of my life. I was terminally broken. And the pain of it all was almost more than I could bear. Almost. I came to very brink of life. That place where I believed I could kill my pain by killing myself. I didn’t know how much LIFE and HOPE and JOY awaited me beyond the darkness that enveloped me. Until Jesus came… and pierced my darkness with His Light. “I am the Light of the World. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the Light of Life.” (John 8:12) Where was God when the tragedy… Read more »

Where Was God? – Part I

Posted by & filed under Discovering Hope, Empowering Life.

It’s been awhile since I have posted here. I’ve been spending most of my time posting online encouragements to my Book Launch Team for Victory in The Valley. I have also been praying about the ways the Lord is leading me to transform my future postings here. I’m EXCITED about His plan! More on all that to follow… soon! Meanwhile, I have been sitting for the last two days with the shock of it all. The shock of what happened in Sutherland Springs. When, at the precise time I was leaving my small church in my small town in Virginia, brothers and sisters I have not met — yet —… Read more »

I could hardly keep my eyes open. Too much activity and too few hours of sleep will do that every time. I was barely awake. Until our Unwelcome Visitor showed up! All 300 pounds of him! (I’m guessing. I didn’t ask him.)  🙂 He didn’t care that it was 2:00 AM. He had already finished off the bird food in the “bear-proof” bird feeder we had spent hours installing yesterday. Now, he was after the grill on our back porch. The grease from the delicious lemon-herb chicken we had cooked for dinner last night. He didn’t care that it was our screened-in porch. The screen was no match for his huge… Read more »
