When Destiny Comes Into Laser Focus

Normally, I write about Christian business owners called to impact the marketplace for Christ. Today, I feel compelled to write about a leader in government service… … who discovered God’s palpable Presence — and his own God-given destiny — at a time that should have ended his life. The son of a Baptist preacher, Bernie Webber struggled with commitment to his faith. His father hoped he might enter the ministry at some point. God had other plans. Bernie joined the U.S. Coast Guard. A quiet, humble man known for his integrity. All that changed on February 18, 1952. He was still a quiet, humble man. He was still a man… Read more »

i61… Highway to Heaven?

Posted by & filed under Championing Religious Liberty, Kingdom PURPOSE.

She is a business owner. Not just any business owner. She’s from the United Kingdom. But which one? See if you can guess. Her business logo looks like an interstate highway sign. i61. Leading to an out-of-this-world destination. Her logo’s inspiration? “The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives… to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor… to comfort all who mourn…”  (Isaiah 61:1-2) Her name is Deborah. She is my Forever Sister. I met her in church last Sunday. In Central… Read more »

Caught In The Vortex!

Posted by & filed under Championing Religious Liberty, Kingdom PURPOSE.

The next tropical storm is moving through the Gulf. Threatening to become a hurricane in the next two days. I’m in Florida, but inland. So I expect nothing more than lots of rain. But still… I feel like I’m caught in a vortex of another kind. I drove 900 miles over the weekend to get home to Central Florida. Mostly, for a three-day training, so I can become certified to use an amazing new transformational tool I know will be a GREAT BLESSING to my clients and potential clients. I just finished one day of the 3-day certification. One LONG day! My head is swimming. Picture that. 🙂 I would… Read more »

Would YOU Trust This Car Dealer?

Posted by & filed under Championing Religious Liberty, Kingdom PURPOSE.

Buying a car is just about my least favorite thing to do. Can anyone relate? I have often left that transaction feeling deceived, manipulated and/or just plain robbed. With too much of my hard-earned money left “on the table.” Because I wasn’t informed, wise or adept enough to find a true “win-win” outcome. I hate feeling like I’m left holding the short end of the stick. How about you? I just discovered a car dealer I would be inclined to trust. Roger Burdick. Not that I will ever actually do business with him. He and his family own Driver’s Village — New York State’s largest automotive megacenter, located in Syracuse…. Read more »

Girl of My Heart… And Heritage

Who do you know whose entrepreneurial legacy began at the age of eight? David Thomas, founder and CEO of Wendy’s. When he was just eight, he dreamed he would run the best restaurant in the world. Before his death at age 69, he did everything he could to bring that dream to life. One source says Dave will be remembered as “one of the best Christian business owners in history.”  http://www.mademan.com/mm/10-best-christian-business-leaders.html Pretty amazing for a man who never knew his birth mom. He was adopted at six weeks old by Rex and Auleva Thomas. His adopted mom then died when he was five. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Thomas_%28businessman%29 Maybe that’s how the seed that would… Read more »

Business Leader… Or Lunatic ???

Posted by & filed under Championing Religious Liberty, Kingdom PURPOSE.

Joe Greene was President of Hospital Operations at Humana. A Fortune 500 company. But he really wanted to run a company strictly on the basis of biblical principles. To prove that they would work. So he founded his own company, Hospital Management Associates in 1977 (later known as Health Management Associates (HMA). With a vision to operate numerous general acute care hospitals.   http://www.company-histories.com/Health-Management-Associates-Inc-Company-History.html “Most people thought I was doomed to fail. Yet no one could tell me exactly which biblical principles wouldn’t work for running a company.”    http://www.christiannewswire.com/news/1998379683.html One example is legendary Joe recognized a principle in Proverbs that inspired an accounting practice he says “would disturb most Chief Financial Officers.” It’s… Read more »

Few businesses have achieved the geographic and financial reach of the one I profile today. Geographically (as of 2017), it touched people in more than 200 countries. 100 million households in the U.S. alone. Financially, its value was estimated at $230 million.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marcus_Lamb Some would say this company reaches all the way to Heaven. And its value is priceless. Daystar Television Network is the second largest Christian TV network in the world. Its founder, President and CEO is American televangelist Marcus Lamb. Marcus became a Christian at age 5 and began preaching as an evangelist at age 15. He was always a quick study. He entered Lee College (now Lee… Read more »

Strange Bedfellows? No… Strategic!

How’s this for a corporate introduction? “In life, as in chicken, it’s always better when you just keep it real. No filler. No nonsense. Just stick to the good stuff. The 100% real stuff. The simple things that make life, and chicken, great.”   https://www.tyson.com/our-story Not a bad philosophy of life… Amen? Depending, of course, on your definition of good and real. This philosophy enabled Tyson Foods to become one of the earliest (and few) companies to revolutionize its industry. By turning a commodity into a brand. John W. Tyson started out peddling dressed chickens, eggs, butter and other farm-fresh products.  https://www.tysonfoods.com/who-we-are/our-story/where-we-came-from/our-history With 11 cents in his pocket, he went to… Read more »
