Can You Hear Me Now?

I love stories like these, Lord!  Stories that testify about how You go to any lengths to reach out to us in unmistakable ways!

This one involves a woman whose “standard operating procedure” is to run around in the craziness at work, trying to control the uncontrollable.  Even as she realizes the futility of her efforts, she continues… her stress causing her blood pressure and frustration to rise unabated.

She was at work yesterday, her SOP in full gear.  Suddenly, her cell phone (which was in her pocket) began to play a sermon message.  A message about turning to You in the fray.  A message about seeking You first and letting go… so You can either calm the storm or calm her in the midst of it.

Impossible!

She wasn’t using her phone.  She hadn’t sought any such message.  And she was at work???  Without ear phones???  So everyone could hear???

She tried stopping the message.  She kept pushing buttons to stop the audio.  But it kept going!  The only way she could finally stop it was to turn the phone off altogether.  So she did.

But the message kept playing in her head.  How could it not?  When You — the Lord of the Universe — had defied the limits of time and technology to speak so personally… to her!!!

“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a Voice behind you saying, ‘This is The Way; walk in it.'”  (Isaiah 30:21)

“Can you hear Me Now?”   🙂

She heard You, Lord.  And so did I… as she told me The Story.  And so will others — countless others. Because nothing in all creation will stop her from sharing this God-encounter with others!

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  (Romans 8:38-39)

But hearing isn’t enough… is it, Lord?  The real difference comes when we take action on what we have heard You say.

“You see that his faith and his actions were workikng together, and his faith was made complete by what he did.”  (James 2:22)

That was her plea yesterday, Lord… that You would help her do what You were exhorting her to do.  And that is my plea today.  Because I know what You have been saying to me lately.  Is this not true for all of us, Lord?

I (we) can hear You now, Lord!  Help me (us) walk in the personal Word You have for each of us!
