BETTER Than a Genie!

How many times have I wondered what it would be like to win Publisher’s Clearinghouse? To have that $7,000 roll in weekly for the rest of my life?  Then, into the life of anyone else I would designate… for the rest of their life?

What would I do with such financial “security”?

I suspect I know the answer to that question, Lord.  Maybe that’s why I haven’t ever entered that contest!   🙁   🙂

It’s one of those “IF ONLY” propositions… isn’t it, Lord?

IF ONLY I had that much money, I wouldn’t have to…

IF ONLY I had that much money, I would be able to…

IF ONLY I had that much money, I would give this much to…

IF ONLY I had that much money, I would make this difference for…

IF ONLY…

How many blessings would I have — and be able to share — IF ONLY I had that much money, Lord?

How could those blessings be any greater, in number or magnitude, than the blessings I already have?  The blessings I am already able to share… without that much money???

“Take delight in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.”  (Psalm 37:4)

“I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken…”  (Psalm 37:25)

“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus.”  (Philippians 4:19)

I didn’t come to this place easily.  Maybe that’s why music in “minor” keys strikes such a deep chord in me.

I have tasted the sweetest of blessings that only You, Lord, could “bake” out of the most bitter recipes.

I have felt the unquenchable JOY of “impossible” healing that only You could bring forth after long seasons of “terminal” despair.

I have inhabited the driest and most barren of soul deserts, watering them with insatiable tears that You — and only You — could turn into pools of Living Water.

We pray for so many worthy things — blessings, peace, comfort, protection, healing, prosperity, an easing of our suffering… And I am convinced, Lord, that You hear every prayer.  You know our every need.  And, as Laura Story sings in her heart-piercing musical tribute “Blessings,” You love us way too much to give us lesser things.

You long for us to trust Your goodness and love, even when our circumstances seem to defy (or deny) You.  You desire that we walk by faith in Your great and precious promises when “reason” would tell us not to do so.

Like Abraham did.  When You asked for his most treasured blessing — his only son, Isaac.

“By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice.  He who had embraced the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, even though God had said to him, ‘It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.”  Abraham reasoned that God could even raise the dead, and so in a manner of speaking he did receive Isaac back from death.”  (Hebrews 11:17-19)

“Abram believed the Lord, and He credited it to him as righteousness.”  (Genesis 15:6)

Jehovah-Jireh:  “The Lord Will Provide.”  That is the one Name (of Your 900+ names!) I have been meditating on this morning.

The One who gives me not just what I want, like some “genie” who grants my every wish. Because You are so much BETTER than a genie.  You are the One who gives me whatever I truly need.

The One who really sees me… and sees to it that my need is met in the perfect way, at the perfect time.  In order to accomplish a greater thing in my life.  To feed A Greater Hunger in me and to quench A Greater Thirst in me.  Greater than anyone or anything in this world could ever satisfy.

“I love You, Lord, my Strength.  The Lord is my Rock, my Fortress and my Deliverer; my God is my Rock, in whom I take Refuge, my Shield and the Horn of my Salvation, my Stronghold.”  (Psalm 18:1-2)

Trusting not in sweepstakes today…

… but in You, Lord — my Sure Thing!
