Beauty Beyond Betrayal – Part 1

There’s no “sugar coating” a betrayal.  It leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

Unless we submit to Your prescriptions, Lord.  You are the Great Physician, after all.  Great for whatever ails us.

Even betrayal.

A dear sister and I spent a lot of time with You today, Lord.  Asking for Your help in making sense of what had happened to her. A friend turned out to be no friend at all.  She didn’t understand.  She was deeply hurt… and angry.  How should she respond?

She showed herself to be a woman after Your heart, Lord.  Determined to not let any seed of bitterness take root.  Longing for healing and reconciliation with the very one who had betrayed her.  Who continues to betray her.

She had scheduled a meeting with this “friend.”  To talk things through.  The friend had accepted.  They had scheduled a day and time.  A recent Sunday.

On the appointed day, my dear Forever Sister was at church, about to take communion. The pastor decided to take a different approach that day.

“… if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that someone has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar.  First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift.”  (Matthew 5:23-24)

She knew You were talking to her, Lord.

So she left the church and walked home.  A 45-minute walk.  The meeting with her friend was scheduled for later that night.  She rehearsed her words all the way home.  She wanted Your heart, Lord… and words from Your lips.

Words of Compassion and Forgiveness.  Words of Reconciliation and Hope.

The time for their meeting came and went.  My friend waited for hours more.  She finally texted her friend before bedtime, asking where she was.  As if swatting a fly, this “friend” said she was too busy… and wouldn’t make it after all.

As if that weren’t enough, my friend has since discovered that her betrayer has been spreading a bad report about her to their mutual friends.  Lifting herself up at my friend’s expense.

She’s Your Daughter, Abba.  She has tasted the Brutality of Betrayal.

What should she do now?

Time will tell — tomorrow to be exact.  When You reveal the Beauty Beyond Betrayal.

“Open my eyes that I might see wonderful things in Your law.”  (Psalm 119:18)
