Be Always Ready to Plant …

… whenever the wind of the Holy Spirit blows.

I’ve known her for many years. We’ve shared many significant life experiences. Graduations. Career moves. Weddings invoking Your name, Lord.

It wasn’t until this week that I knew for sure… She doesn’t yet know You.

We were in a car for 90 minutes. Just the two of us. Make that three…You were so clearly there, Lord. She spoke about her first child. Four years old. Attending a private, Christian pre-school.

Learning about You.

Ah, the sweet faith of a child! So open. So eager. So receptive. What precious stories she recounted about this wee one… exclaiming that You, Lord, have created the Earth and everything in it.

Even the houses and cars.  🙂

As my friend spoke of her child’s spiritual journey, she began to reveal her own.

Why the Christian school? To expose her child to You. Even though it is her plan to expose her child to other faiths, too… and let her make up her own mind.

[News flash: Is this partly why so many young people get into trouble, Lord? Because their parents let them define not only spirituality but morality however they choose? Throwing them into the maelstrom of life with no empowering direction?]

If people spend their whole lives treading water, how will they ever find solid ground?

“With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”  (Matthew 19:26)

My friend continued…

Her infrequent visits to church. In a family that professed Your name, but acted more like virtual strangers indifferent to You. Times she was exposed to Your Word… and liked it.

Recurring dreams she’s been having, filled with questions laced with panic: “Is there something — somewhere — after we die and leave this Earth?”

I was beginning to see Your gracious and glorious orchestration, Beloved. Then, You opened the door… and led me to bear witness. To Who You are… and what You’ve done for me.

Even suggesting to her that thrilling, “What if…”

What if these events were no accident? What if they’ve all been orchestrated by Him as His personal way of tapping you on the shoulder and saying, ‘Here I AM. Come, seek Me… and you will find Me.”

What if… ???

A priceless seed planted. In ground You’d obviously prepared, Lord. Ground I’m trusting is fertile. Then, the door closed. Quietly, but firmly. At least, for now.

As my friend napped for the rest of our ride, I filled the car with silent prayers and thanksgiving.

You are so amazing, Lord! And the consummate Gentleman. So passionate in Your love for us. Yet equally passionate in Your determination to never coerce or manipulate.

You only invite. The choice is always ours: To accept or reject You.

What will she choose, Lord? You already know… don’t You? I don’t… but I’m HOPE-FULL. And oh-so-grateful for the opportunity to be part of her journey with You.

“[I] planted the seed. [Someone else] watered it, but God has been making it grow.” (1 Corinthians 3:6)

Joyfully,

Abba’s Girl
