Has it just been days since I stood up in my self-styled pit, Lord?  It seems like so long ago that I finally said “Yes” to You, and began to climb up out of that pit.  Up the mountain again.  One step at a time.

As weak as I was.  As weak as I am.

“Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power.  Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.”  (Ephesians 6:1)

I have been doing just that, Abba.  And every single day, You have met me in unique and personal ways! Reassuring me.  Strengthening me.  Loving me and encouraging me to get out of my slump and into my stride again.

Like two days ago… as I rode my bike through the damp mist on yet another grey, dreary morning.

In the first three-quarters of my ten-mile ride, I saw three dead opossums.   Poor babies.  Nocturnal creature.  Gentle creatures.  Naive, perhaps?  Wandering around in the darkness to their destruction.

Isn’t that what I had been doing, Lord?

“I am the Light of the World.  Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the Light of Life.”  (John 8:12)

Even in the grey chill of that morning, I was praising You.  Drawing close to You, knowing You were infusing me with what I needed that particular day to continue my climb out of the muck and mire.

The road curved to the right.  And suddenly, right in front of me, three huge buzzards scattered!  Taking flight to escape the intrusion of my presence.  But it wasn’t really my presence at all… was it, Lord?

“Though you search for your enemies, you will not find them.  Those who wage war against you will be as nothing at all.  For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, ‘Do not fear; I will help you.'”  (Isaiah 41:12-13)

Isn’t that what You are doing now, Lord?  Faithfully scattering my enemies, even as You are helping me let go of my fear so I can grab hold of Your hand?

You were using all of nature to talk to me that day, Lord.  The grey, misty chill had not yet dissipated… but I was moving again, in spite of it.  There was no heaviness over me.  I felt like flying!

So often, the only way out of a valley is through it.  And here You are… helping me, unfailingly, every step of the way.

Gratefully,

Abba’s Girl
