A Purple and Yellow Day

Some days are Black and Blue.

Life roughs us up a bit.  Sends us reeling.  Even delivers a knock-out punch.  We ache with every breath.  We’ve lost the round, perhaps even the whole fight.  And it shows.

But then… we are blessed with a Purple and Yellow Day.  Maybe even a “string” of them. Like the last two… for me.

We had arrived at our mountain retreat in Virginia.  The last time we were here, it was in the early — yet certain — embrace of Winter.  Grey and cold.  Leafless.  Seemingly lifeless.

Two days ago, we arrived.  And here we are… in the early — yet certain — embrace of Spring.  It’s still grey and cold.  But fresh green leaves are hanging on every branch.

Evidence that what was seemingly lifeless is actually fully ALIVE!

Against the new green that is slowly “awakening” the brown, dormant landscape, I see only two colors.  Brilliant colors.  Breathtaking colors.  Purple and Yellow.

A cascade of purple flowers adorning a trellis near the butterfly bushes that have not even started to bud.  Lily-like blossoms that seem to trumpet the Beauty that is soon to burst out everywhere.

Yellow finches dancing around the bird feeders we had purposefully restocked.  Yellow finches gratefully receiving the gourmet meal that had “miraculously” appeared in the middle of this hideaway haven.

Purple… the color of Royalty.  Reminding me that I am Yours.  A Daughter of The King.

Yellow… the color of Sonshine.  Reminding me that You, too, were once lifeless.  But You rose — fully ALIVE — then, now and forever!

A Purple and Yellow day.

Reminding me that black-and-blue days will come and go in this life.  But we need not be “down and out” as a result.  Because You, Lord, have already won The Heavyweight Championship.  You are more powerful than any challengers.  And You are on our side!

“I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace.  In this world you will have trouble.  But take heart!  I have overcome the world.”  (John 16:33)

AND

“[My] divine power has given [you] everything [you] need… through [your] knowledge of [Me] who has called [you] by [My] own glory and goodness.”  (2 Peter 1:3)

And this is how You welcomed me back to this beauty-full place, Lord?  Is it any wonder why You named it Sanctuary Hill???

Joyfully Yours,

Abba’s Girl
