29 Years in Eternity

May 20, 1987.

Chronologically, my second birthday.  Spiritually, my only Birthday!

The day I opened my heart to You, Lord… for the very first time.

Twenty-nine years ago… TODAY!

I remember my words to You like I had spoken them just yesterday.

“I don’t know why You want me, Lord.  But You came after me.  I don’t understand why.  I’m not worth it.  But OK.  Take my life.  And do whatever You want with it.”

Not the typical “sinner’s prayer.”  Not the two questions taught by Evangelism Explosion. No evangelist present at all, in fact.

Except You, of course.  The Super Evangelist.  The Fisherman of all fishermen.

“Come, follow Me,’ Jesus said, ‘and I will make you fishers of men.”  (Matthew 4:19)

And women.   🙂

Funny thing about Life, Lord.  I have spent more than half of my days on Earth separated from You.  Lost, seemingly forever.  Leaving less than half of my earthly years belonging to You.  And knowing it, that is.

You knew I was Yours long before I did… didn’t You, Lord?

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart…”  (Jeremiah 1:5)

“You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit — fruit that will last… ”  (John 15:16)

In earthly terms, my “clock” is ticking down.  The sands in my hourglass are running out. My body is slowly, but surely, wearing out.  But the longer I live, the more LIFE blossoms — explodes?! — within me!

ETERNAL Life!  Which started on May 20, 1987.  The moment I said “Yes” to You, Lord!

“Very truly I tell you, whoever hears My Word and believes Him who sent me has Eternal Life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to Life.”  (John 5:24)

No clock ticking down.  No hourglass emptying.  No body wearing out.

In fact, the very opposite!!!

“For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.”  (1 Peter 1:23)

Born again.  On my second birthday.  The one that counts the most.

May 20, 1987.

29 years in Eternity… so far!   🙂

Joyfully Yours,

Abba’s Girl
